SYNOPSIS OF FORTHCOMING BOOK BY DR. WALTER L. CHRISTMAN
In a world of rapid and accelerating change, Building Global Resilience: A Call to Action confronts the antiquated thinking of constraining narratives that undermine humankind’s agility to respond effectively to emerging global challenges. Addressing the biggest challenge facing humanity today — meaningful connectedness — and grounded in an imminent present — it offers bold integrated learning concepts to address emergent virulent global threats that intersect and combine into larger order problems, creating cascading effects, the likes of which transcend any individual nation’s capacity to address. This is the chaotic world our youth confront and must collectively overcome through the creation of new forms of collaboration, in which they must continuously redesign their discourse and the world itself.
In support, the book is a manifesto offering an emancipatory strategy for building global resilience, by outlining a plan for ‘Action Learning,’ that together with ‘Knowledge Curation’ and ‘Connectivism’ can chart a new pathway ahead. It declares global resilience to be the desired end state of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) beyond 2030 and advocates the cultivation of a global resilience culture. This can be enabled by combining the energies of top-down partnerships of the United Nations and member states with bottom-up partnership initiatives worldwide at the community, city, financial investor, and youth activist levels of society. Speaking new hope and purpose for the rest of the 21st century, it invites people everywhere to become resilient change makers — namely to be love, have joy; have courage, be empowered!
